Biosystematics: what and why?

The biosystematics pyramid

Biosystematics has to do with the identification and naming of living organisms. As such it is the foundation without which other biodiversity research cannot progress. You cannot study an organism if you do not know what it is. Biodiversity research provides the essential background for sustainable development, which is the prime driver of economic development in a naturally well-endowed country like Namibia. As such, biosystematics has everything to do with the future of every Namibian.

The Biosystematics Working Group and the National Biodiversity Programme were sponsored by the Namibian Ministry of Environment and Tourism, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit.
